<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
So it's been a relatively long time since I've blogged and there is so much to update you on! One of the most exciting things is that I and my mum who is also a potter and artist have purchased a new kiln together. What's even better is that this kiln is the most eco friendly kiln that exists to date.</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
I moved out of my Thames side studio and set up a small studio space at my home. It's much more practical for me and I don't need a lot of space so the spare room is perfect for me to potter way and make creations out of clay.</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
I thought it would be fun to do a little room tour and show you some photos of my new art studio. My main studio is based in the spare room but we do have the kiln down in the garden shed.</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">At the moment I don't have access to my little studio because of the pandemic. meaning I am truly missing it. I do have a setup in my own home where I'm creating but I thought it would be nice to show you some photos of my studio. Hopefully I will be able to get back there once this crisis gets better!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>

<br /></div>
<div>
Something I am really passionate about is trying to be as eco friendly and conscious as I possibly can within Rebecca Wise Studio. My mum taught me from an young age that it's important to recycle, reuse and reduce waste and now that I'm older I really understand the importance of sustainability within my business and life in general. When I first started Rebecca Wise Studio of summer 2019 one of my main goals was to make sure that I tried to be sustainable as possible within my means regarding packaging and waste. I still have some work to do and I haven't perfected my efforts 100% but I am willing and passionate about maintaining a brand that is Eco-friendly. It's important to me because I don't want to add to environmental issues and I believe that when starting any business it's important to think about and have good ethics and values.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Some of the ways in which I try to be conscious about sustainability in Rebecca Wise Studio is:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>Using biodegradable bubble wrap</li>
<li>Reusing newspaper, old papers and bubble wrap etc, for padding when packaging orders</li>
<li>Reusing old cardboard boxes that I have to package orders in</li>
<li>I use cardboard packaging for all orders that can be reused or recycled.</li>
<li>Using tissue paper and shred that can be recycled/reused</li>
<li>Using non-toxic and lead free clay and glazes</li>
<li>I reuse old plastic packaging to cover my clay pots in the green-ware stage</li>
<li>I have rescued old tiles that were going to been thrown out to use as plates to place my clay pots on in the green-ware stage</li>
</ul>
<div>
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
Some of my sustainability goals for 2020:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>To find sustainable tape to tape boxes up with. This is a hard one as most recyclable tapes are not biodegradable even if they made using recycled materials.</li>
<li>To find a source where I can make biodegradable and compostable packaging stickers ( most companies that make stickers don't use materials that are biodegradable due to plastic/the sticky materials on the back cant be recycled)</li>
<li>To make 100% recycled paper business cards once my old ones runs out</li>
<li>Experiment with reclaiming clay</li>
</ul>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I am really excited to make more efforts to be sustainable in 2020. I have recently designed a new logo for my Rebecca Wise Studio so it will be really exciting to see it transferred into stickers and business cards that are eco-friendly, recycable and compostable too. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
During my journey with pottery I have come across a lot of ideas to explore and one that really stood out to me was the exploration of the female form within my ceramics. I believe it has always been important to explore the female form and create realistic representations through art. The female form is a beautiful concept to be inspired by and has led me to learn a lot more about the female body. I also have learned through creating these pieces to be more inclusive with my language and the illustrations I create. Remembering to include trans women and non binary folk within the conversation as well as showing love for natural parts of our bodies that society often outcasts. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJKggjtcWuPlMWAZ2VfoMB6-HBHf-PM3nLPEKdgdSKBJNBohmluf0aJikOb9urFSsG84ZUJMQ5XpkYbWEei8epM9GCJVCQvpx4nyR91tHeatlXx6Vl3svHHQ9oFiO2LdWg1rD5Q0d6L-xO/s1600/female+form+sketches.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1534" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJKggjtcWuPlMWAZ2VfoMB6-HBHf-PM3nLPEKdgdSKBJNBohmluf0aJikOb9urFSsG84ZUJMQ5XpkYbWEei8epM9GCJVCQvpx4nyR91tHeatlXx6Vl3svHHQ9oFiO2LdWg1rD5Q0d6L-xO/s1600/female+form+sketches.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
To start off with I looked at myself for inspiration. This was not only helpful for clear representation of one type of a woman's body but it also helped me to become more accepting of my body shape and my curiosity with how I feel about my own gender. I believe it is very important to be inclusive of all body types and so drawing my own fat body really helped to start this off. I explored curves, shapes, lumps, scars, wrinkles, sizing, hair, and the vulva within the drawings of myself and found this as inspiration for some of my pottery work.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghWDkMyhTtHY7pDu-klfsaW6qRTWsCf8HVj0dvsaKA4RJOg8bV48t5xEwh609o5aJvD9lQMeFoboByaGGpu9ahjwae-5vQB8xnnFQzV4gedOgul972jkIGpzYuMb6EbSJ-9gMZbKCKtEx6/s1600/rebecca+wise+studio+etsy.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1308" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghWDkMyhTtHY7pDu-klfsaW6qRTWsCf8HVj0dvsaKA4RJOg8bV48t5xEwh609o5aJvD9lQMeFoboByaGGpu9ahjwae-5vQB8xnnFQzV4gedOgul972jkIGpzYuMb6EbSJ-9gMZbKCKtEx6/s1600/rebecca+wise+studio+etsy.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here are some samples of early exploration of the female form. I found painting block shapes really helped create a mid century style / retro modern look to the pots, which is something I really wanted to create. I added stylised black outlines over the top illustrating my take on the female form. Exploring inclusivity and inspired by my own experiences. I think its really important to open up an inclusive conversation about our bodies. Our boobs can be all shapes and sizes, we can have hair, wrinkles, fat, lumps and be worthy of all the good things.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxZ6mrvcfz5ExhKNWu-opjrdj-hlOKL1gjyIQCxLAK9Qdnzvx84Yri_hxfPrwGCjBlXoMW3nDECoeWqnBYIH7dDN07A1GeItIjma3o0Y26Wyp5ETxYAE8wt62WP1ooSz3vm6W6Trr-vGvN/s1600/IMG_3786_polarr.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxZ6mrvcfz5ExhKNWu-opjrdj-hlOKL1gjyIQCxLAK9Qdnzvx84Yri_hxfPrwGCjBlXoMW3nDECoeWqnBYIH7dDN07A1GeItIjma3o0Y26Wyp5ETxYAE8wt62WP1ooSz3vm6W6Trr-vGvN/s1600/IMG_3786_polarr.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

I really hope to explore this topic more in depth with my ceramics and I am deeply passionate about exploring the female form with good representation with a female gaze. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A few months ago, before breaking my wrist and having to take a break...I moved into my new art studio. It took several weeks to put the furniture in a find a layout that suits me and I still have a bit more to do but it's getting there. At the moment I'm focusing on experimenting with techniques, colours and styles. I've been making pots, vases and mugs using techniques such as pinch pot, slab and coiling. Still haven't used the wheel but we will get there eventually.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
With regards to the studio, luckily I got some help from my dad and the old camper-van to move the furniture over. I set up some shelving for the materials as well as to create a shelving system so I can remember which pot are bisque and need glazing as I had quite a lot going on at different processing times. Chucked some old desks in and a few plants and the place looks pretty cute. I move out of the studio at the end of April. So I thought I'd leave it as it is instead of building in more shelving. I have some exciting things coming up to share with you though as I carry on with my ceramics. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It can get pretty messy in the studio with clay dust everywhere and I almost always leave the studio covered in some sort of clay and paint on my clothes even if I'm wearing my lovely apron. I'm pretty happy with the layout now and have become particularity adorned by the large monstera plants that sit happily in the communal space (photographed below). </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Other than that the studio is pretty much complete. I'm sure I will need some more storage soon but for now I have been covering the walls with inspiration, drawings and idea to help me further develop my work. It always helps me to draw/paint out ideas that I have in my head before putting the straight onto the surfaces of my ceramics and it gives me a clearer idea on what I want to achieve, I'm less likely to waste a good piece of ceramics as well.<br />
<br />
My favourite part of the studio is the beautiful large windows that allow sun light in all day! Great for taking shadowy sunlight photography of my ceramics!</div>
